I have gotten this exact line so many times from people I just stare at them openly until they go away.

I don’t have to explain in novel form why this is a seriously loaded fucking statement, do I? From identity erasure to patriarchal views that certain people who have a certain appearance are automatically within the acceptable range of “what is okay”, novels could be written on this bullshit alone. And clearly, it does a wonderful job of contributing to rape culture.
